"And what exactly are you doing here?" the guard asked.

In that moment, Jodi blinked and looked around her. Towers of steel and glass were everywhere. The guard, looking quite annoyed, was dressed in a monochromatic blue uniform with "Dave Security" emblazoned on the front.

"D... A... V... E..." she sounded out.

"Ummm... are you okay?" The guard's expression quickly changed to that of concern.

Jodi's entire body went limp as she collapsed to the ground.

Jodi woke up laying down. She tried to move her arms but they were held back by some kind of restraint. She struggled against them instinctively for a moment before giving up. Looking around, there wasn't much to see. Everything was the same shade of sterile white with the exception of a glowing light fixture.

"Dave?" she asked aloud.

One of the curtains surrounding her was pulled back to reveal she was not alone here.

"You're up! That's good. Do you know where you are?"

Jodi simply looked at the person quizzically. "Dave?" she repeated.

"No, I'm not Dave. My name is Dr. Sinai. I'm here to take care of you. Who is Dave? Is he a friend of yours?"

"Dave." Jodi snapped back.

Dr. Sinai jotted a few things down as their expression became more serious. "I'm on your side here Jodi. It's literally my job to help you get better."

Jodi froze at hearing her name. She wasn't sure how she knew it was her name and was equally uncertain how this stranger did.

"Sorry, we had to go through your things when you came in. You weren't carrying much, but you did have a few identifying documents on you. I didn't see anything about a Dave in there though."

"Dave." Jodi said quietly. She felt violated.

"Have you noticed that you've only said 'Dave' to me? Can you say anything else? Like your name or even an object you can see?"

"Dave?" she blurted. Her attention turned to what she was saying, trying to utter literally anything else. "DAVE?"

"It's okay. It's okay. We're here to help. Let's talk about what you can remember. Do you know your address?"

Jodi stared blankly at the doctor as she tried to recall the information. "Dave." she muttered defeatedly.

"I'll take that as a no. Do you remember anything about where you were or why you were there?"

Jodi tried to think. Her mind felt blank. The only clear memory she had was her brief encounter with the security guard. Even then, it felt partial, like she had been talking to the guard beforehand, but couldn't remember.

"Dave." she said defeatedly.

"Okay. Now that you're up, we're going to run a few blood tests to check for some things. Chances are this is purely psychological, but there are some things to rule out first. Sound good?"

"Dave?" Jodi questioned, moving her restraints.

"Sorry. We need to keep those on for a bit until we know you aren't a danger to yourself or others. I'm sure it's not fun, but it's just what we have to do."

Suddenly Jodi started realizing all of the things she didn't know. She couldn't picture any friends. She had no idea what she did. She couldn't even remember her parents names or faces.

"Dave?" Jodi panicked. "DAVE?"

"The more you struggle, the longer you're going to have to stay like that. Anyway, I'll be back soon."

Jodi Daniels (F, 29): Patient arrived unconscious to ER after collapse outside via ambulance. Patient regained consciousness, but is unable to say anything other than "Dave". Patient is very disoriented and has become restless. Recommend transfer to psychiatric unit for further treatment.
